About Christ's Hands

During the Clinton Administration in the mid to late 1990's, the welfare reform law enacted by congress was set to take effect with those enabled to find a job running up on the deadline for benefits expiration. Harlan County has historically had a high unemployment rate with very few jobs available. The work requirements of the law were going to force people unable to find work off of the welfare rolls. With this prospect looming, a group of concerned Christians came together and formed Christ's Hands to provide food aid to these people and the others with no food security. It was determined that the area most in need of service was evening meal time.
